According to a study in the American Journal of Public Health, thinking you are overweight may actually be worse for you than being overweight. Researchers asked 150,000 adults about their current weight, ideal weight and how often they felt unhealthy. They found that the less satisfied people were with their size, the less healthy they felt, regardless of how much they weighed.
The authors explained that the brain is the control center for our emotions and for our physiology. How we feel directly impacts our body. Over time, negative emotions can lead to disease. To maintain that healthy outlook, keep stress and depression in check. Focus on what your body can do, not how many pounds it weighs. Set realistic goals, and celebrate every victory, no matter how small.
